It’s Wednesday and my energy is bust. There are more days to go and lots of tasks. I started a new project after a bit (months) of procrastination and I am unable to go as fast I could.

This means that I would be tied down for long. The thought is somewhat overwhelming because I thrive on deadlines set and deadlines met cycle. This means I won’t be able to have closure. This also means that I wouldn’t be able to start new projects.

On Monday and Tuesday night, I just worked myself in a knot, trying to work late and trying to get all of it (or most of it done). Many hours late into the night, I did realize that I really can’t wind up the project in a matter of a few days. It really is no longer about working late at night or chaining myself to my workstation at home. It’s more about biting more than I can possibly chew and trying to deplete my mental and physical energy to the extreme.

So on Wednesday, i.e., today, I decided to have readjust my goals and deadlines. I have realized that working myself into a frenzy and still being not able to meet my goals and personal deadlines is neither helping me, nor my project.

All this exhaustion, frustration and missed sleep is just not worth it.

So, tonight, I am just stepping back and reading a nice book. I hope tomorrow, I would be well-rested, more focused, calmer and productive.

This is tonight’s WorthWorking4 Wednesdays tip is to sometimes step back, take a breather, readjust your goals, expectations and work method, so that you can reenergize yourself.

This tip is of course, not for everyone. It certainly isn’t for you, if you happen to be a procrastinator. But this tip definitely is for you, if your work style leans towards workaholism or obsession with deadlines and goals. Either extremes of the behavior doesn’t work. Life and work are all bout balance.

I will catch you next week, hopefully, with another productivity related tip or personal insight!
