Does it happen to you?
You need to do something important, but there is a bunch of other stuff that seems to be vying for your attention?
Or,
You went to the room to pick up an important document, but the other things lying on the desk got to you.
How often you find yourself lagging behind on important tasks and deadlines because there is are lots of other things that get in the way.
There are instances when you could have gotten your work done much faster and finished it much earlier, if there hadn’t been so many things to take care of first.
Have you ever thought that you can be more productive than you currently are if there is lesser stuff around you, fewer things for you to take care of, to clean and put away?
What seems like a distraction problem could be a problem of clutter. This means that there is more stuff around you than you actually need or don’t have enough time to take care of!
This is what minimalism or being a minimalist is all about!
How Minimalism Improves Productivity…
Minimalism can actually make you more productive by reducing clutter and distraction!
When you choose minimalism over consumerism, you are able to free up your time and sharpen your attention span.
This way you have lesser things to take care of, look for and look after!
You are able to prioritize better as a result and give due attention to your family, your work and other things that matter!
Consequently, you are able to improve your productivity levels.
Why Consumerism Can be Problematic
At the core of consumerism, there are wants and desires.
Not simpler ones, but complex, endless and relentless ones.
It’s an endless pursuit of seemingly attractive but trivial things!
You want to own everything you like!
You don’t consider whether you actually need them or not!
You don’t consider that they add to the quality of your life actually or not!
The result is far too much stuff that we find it hard to organize, sort and take care of!
Clutter leads to wastage!
It distracts us from enjoying things, prevents us from doing what we want to do and love doing!
It prevents us from being contented with and enjoy what we already have!
Consumerism stops us from making human connections!
What Minimalism Is (and What It Isn’t!)
Minimalism isn’t about getting rid of everything you own…
It means prioritizing what you actually want…
It means focusing on what you already have and enjoying it to the fullest…
The Final Thought!
Minimalism is a lifestyle. Some people are born minimalist; while others adopt it because they want to improve themselves and the quality of their lives! Some want to reduce clutter and wastage! Others want to renew their focus and improve their productivity!
But one must learn that minimalism can’t be adopted overnight if it’s not intrinsically a part of your nature! Minimalism is a gradual journey.
