Self-care is what it sounds like: taking care of your own self first and foremost, before you take care of anyone else. Self-care is important because life is tough, and everyone needs care. When you don’t get the self-care you need, you end up becoming angry, sick, sad and depressed.
Even if you expect others to look out and take care of you, no one will do it! At the end of the day, taking care of YOU is your own responsibility and no one else’s.
Self-care comes in all shapes and forms. For example, it may mean doing something you like, doing it for yourself, because YOU matter.
Teenagers Need Self-Care Also…
You are handling enough: assessment, assignments, maintaining grades and relationships. You are also trying to discover yourself and decide who you want to be! You are also trying to separate real friends from fake friends. All of this is a lot and confusing.
It’s a good idea to do separate yourself from everything and everyone and practise self-care.
Self-Care Ideas for Teenagers
There are my ideas, the things to take care of myself when I am a little down:
- Close my door and get some privacy.
- Nap.
- Put on my favorite shade of lip gloss.
- Listen to my favorite song.
- Watch a good series.
- Read a book.
- Eat some ice-cream.
- Call a friend.
- Don’t talk to someone who has hurt me.
- Ride my cycle.
- Write in my diary, whatever is bugging me.
- Go to the mall.
- Download and listen to a meditation app.
Now this is my list, yours can be different. But you get the idea!
Conclusion
Self-care shows that you love and value yourself. It is about honoring yourself, your personality, your body, your health, and appreciating yourself. Self-care is good for health, the mind and body overall. Self-care is always needed. And I hope that you treat yourself to it.
