We are made of energy. We are not just neutrons and proterons, swimming around in the big cosmic soup! We are sentient beings. Our bodies, our thoughts, emotions, consciousness create the human energy fields.

When our energy field synchronizes with another, we feel harmonized and synchronized with the universe! We feel energized. However, when our respective energy fields collide with another person’s energy field, we feel disturbed and antagonized.

Therefore, it is important to be with someone whose energy field and wavelength matches ours.

Do you feel that certain people tend to drain your energy? They might be doing so unintentionally and without any ill will, but being around them can be draining! The interactions with them may be making you feel depleted, distressed, unappreciated or ignored. Hence, it is also monumentally important to protect your energy and replenish it. Here are some of the ways you can protect your energy around others:

Be Subjective with Whom You Help

The problem with being an empath is that you feel deeply about everything and everyone. You have a strong sense of responsibility towards their welfare, best interests, etc.

This means that you take the time to listen to someone in need to ventilate! You go out of your way to help those needing care and help. Now this is a good thing!

But this constant care and concern can be exhausting as well. Or, the person asking for your help doesn’t acknowledge your effort or rebuff you! It’s natural to feel hurt! Sometimes, they might only want to ventilate or rant and are not necessarily looking for your advice or help. No matter how sincere your intentions are, no matter how deeply you care for someone and their problems, don’t go out of your way to help them, if they don’t want to be helped. Know the extent to be available and then step back!

Accept People as They Are

We want to see life through our unique lens, perspective. Likewise, we want to see people through our lens of perception. This means that we see them the way we want them to be and not as how they actually are. Consequently, we develop expectations from them. We want them to act in a certain way. As a result, we even try to change them. The tendency to act naively in relationships and turning a blind eye to people’s actual nature make us disappointed and hurt in the end. The balance between acceptance towards others the way they are and controlling our desire to change them is the ultimate key towards cultivating successful relationships.

Pay Attention to How People Make You ‘Feel’

People act in a certain way to get accepted in a social circle, to fit in and to earn people’s trust. They might not want to deceive, but their actual nature and their social persona can be different from each other. They might show us who they are through their behavior. What we need to do is to observe them and their body language, rather than blindly trusting what they are saying.

More importantly, you should try paying attention to how they make you feel when you are around them. Try to be intuitive, follow a vibe when choosing to trust a person, and this would help you protect yourself from undue or ill-placed expectations, possible exploitation and the eventual hurt.

Create Healthy Boundaries

No matter how good a relationship is, be it friendship or a work relationship, creating healthy, respectful boundaries helps the relationship become stronger. You would know how to ask for or lend a helping hand. Likewise, the healthy boundaries would help you give and get breathing and working space. You would also know how to deal with difference of opinions or resolve differences, without confronting or arguing. Healthy boundaries help people preserve and replenish their mental and physical energies. Every relationship hits a bump once in a while. Having healthy boundaries in place enable us to retract and recharge ourselves rather than cutting ties off.  

Choose Your Thoughts and Words Consciously

 Our thoughts, emotions, and how we choose to express them through particular words have a profound impact on our moods and energy. They even impact the moods and energies of others around us and vice versa. A negative thought or word can negatively impact our moods and mindset even. Having thoughts or using words like ‘bad’, ‘tired’, ‘too much’, ‘bad’, ‘too hard’, ‘I can’t’, ‘ugly’, ‘unhappy’, ‘don’t like’, disappointing’, etc., create a bad mood, a negative emotion or reaction. Blocking out negative thoughts, deliberately focusing your thoughts towards the positive side of things, and choosing positive words over negative ones can significantly increase your energy levels.

You are made of energy or energy field which is very powerful and precious as well. There are times when we feel depleted energy-wise and we don’t understand why we are feeling that way or what we can do about it. Here are some of the ways we can preserve and strengthen our energies: being selective about extending help, accepting people as they are, observing them, creating healthy boundaries in relationships, and choosing our positive thoughts, emotions and words.
