let yourself be

I have this compulsive need always to do something, by the minute and hour.

Even when I am relaxing, I feel I am sitting idle and should be doing something ‘productive’ with my time.

But with vacations, weather disturbances and disruption of plans, I have been very busy.

Yes busy but not productive.

Cooking, washing dishes, cleaning, shopping, wrapping gifts up, and picking up toys and clothes strewn around the house. Clearing away the decorations, throwing away the discarded gift wrappings!

Trying to tame the clutter and chaos.

But the house looks still like a mess because everyone has been home!

How were things in the past few days, with the weather disturbances and all?

Did anyone else struggle during the past few days like me, or everything went according to your plan and expectations?

Chances are that the former happened!

There are times when you need a moment, to yourself to catch your breath, relax and exhale.

Yet your mind…the tiny voice in your head keeps chiding and reminding you that you need to work, get this out of the way or that!

You might be in the kind of line of work or business where the competition is intense, someone always threatening to out run you.

And the pressures keep you on your toes!

Still, there are times when you need to let go of worries and fears!

You need to relax and take it easy.

The expectations of others and of your own stop you from relaxing.

Please understand…

To do, to do and always having, needing to do something isn’t productivity!

It’s a compulsive disorder.

It’s the exact opposite of productive!

It’s counterproductive!

Just pause for a moment and have a look around you!

See the kids?

Look at how they are living in the moment!

Watching TV, building a blanket fort, reading, resting!

Enjoying their candy stash!

They understand that the school awaits them, the soccer practice, dance lessons, maths practice!

But right now! They are enjoying! Living their best life!

Isn’t this what we strive for! Happiness? Of ours and of our loved ones?

When you let go of the urge to be productive 24/7, be somewhere else, so something else, you are able to recognize the potential of the present moment.

You recognize the need and worth of being at peace, calm and focused that comes with just being simple, gently present in the moment.

So just be here!

Without resentment and frustration on not having control!

Allow your day to shape itself!

Be present!

Be contented!

You would be pleasantly surprised how you would feel when you allow yourself just to be!
