self-validation

Validation is an important emotional need. It is natural to feel doubtful about our own feelings and capabilities, from time to time. That’s why we need assurance from others, i.e., friends and family members. We also need self-validation.

It is unlikely however that we are going to receive validation as often as we need it. It is even possible that we get ridiculed for emotional needs.

As a result, our unmet emotional needs cause us great emotional anguish and disappointment. Relying on others to get validated is a toxic need.

What is Self-Validation

Self-validation means accepting our feelings and emotions, without feeling ashamed about experiencing them, without having the need to justify them to ourselves and to others. It is for this reason we need self-validation more than we need validation from others. Self-validation makes us emotionally emotionally independent, self-reliant and stronger.
